Water Quality Report

Welcome to the Department of Public Works!

The Department of Public Works provides many essential services to our residents, business community, visitors and shoppers. We have the responsibility to provide essential municipal services to the City, its residents, our visitors and to our business and institutional community in a timely, environmentally conscious and cost effective manor.

This Department of Public Works is comprised of seven Bureaus:

        * Bureau of Administration
        * Bureau of Water
        * Bureau of Engineering
        * Bureau of Highways
        * Bureau of Sanitation
        * Bureau of Garage and Shop
        * Bureau of Public Facilities

DPW performs frequent maintenance inspections and repairs affecting the City’s infrastructure and its quality of life. We are proud that, in recognition of DPW’s energy efficient techniques in the management of its programs, including our buildings and vehicles, we have received numerous awards and earned high marks in regards to the high quality of our drinking water provided to the City of White Plains, and the successful recycling and composting program, which has eliminated more than one third of garbage being hauled by Sanitation each week. Westchester County recently awarded White Plains a Certificate of Achievement for having an outstanding organic yard waste and paper recycling program.

We are always on call to make sure that living conditions in White Plains are at their best. During the winter months, when road conditions may become hazardous, the Bureau of Highways is unparalleled in their efforts for snow removal, and in the warmer months road conditions are improved and public parks and grounds are improved and maintained.

You will also find our Annual Water Supply Report, highlighting information about the water quality tests we perform and the resulting high quality of our drinking water. What Plains has consistently offered its citizens exemplary water and yet, historically, we’ve had the lowest average water rates among fifty Westchester County water purveyors.

Our Department’s reuse of various Public Works materials such as granite curbing, fire hydrants and asphalt, along with our increased recycling efforts and our widely acclaimed fleet of alternate fuel vehicles all have tremendous benefits, thus saving energy, the environment and the taxpayers’ money.

Sincerely,

Joseph J. Nicoletti, Jr., P.E.
Commissioner of Public Works
